So I go from coldplay on Friday night to this on Monday night. I’m back in my hometown for a few days and I kind of chuckled to myself as I watched The Old Crow Indian Band perfrom its staple summer Monday night performance in the towns gazebo.  They have been around since I was a kid.  coldplay was amazing on Friday night but there was something raw about this evenings music, it had a similar punch but with a different means of delivery.  There is just something cool about simplicity in tradition.  Here is a little written background I found about them on the internet. Old Crow Indian Band of Farmington, METhe Old Crow Indian Band In 1952 a group of Farmington musicians got together to play for a Halloween parade and party. They dressed as Indians to offset another group who went as cowboys and made such a hit that they decided to organize. An empty, allegedly, bottle of Old Crow whiskey completed the name. That was the start of the Old Crow Indian Band with George Chapman as director. When George Chapman moved away in 1973 Stanley Harnden, who passed away in 2007, took his place. Today, the musicians come from many communities in Western Maine and include all ages from young grade school students to senior citizens. The band performs at many concerts and parades during the summer. Every Monday evening from the first of June through the end of August the band plays a concert at Farmington’s Meeting House Park gazebo. For parades the musicians and marchers still dress in Indian costumes. The band members welcome all other musicians to join them at any time.
